Siniya Alumni Forum – SAF

SINIYA Alumni Forum was launched on 6th August 2011 by the then Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda Hon. Amama Mbabazi at Hotel Africana.

The Forum has since tried it’s best to involve Old Boys of Kigezi College Butobere in a bid to restore the glory of SINIYA.

STRATEGIES:

  1. Introduction of a Bursary Scheme for the best performers but needy students joining Senior one and Senior five.
  2. Motivation for teachers by giving them termly allowances.
  3. Rewarding teachers whose subjects are performed best at UCE and UACE.
  4. Rewarding best performing students at both UCE and UACE.
  5. Facilitating Exerminers and Motivational Speakers to visit the school at least once a year preferably in the third term to boost students academically.
  6. Prominent OBs to host SINIYA Fellowships where progress, challenges and prospects of the school are discussed and deliberations made. Fundraising also becomes a component in these gatherings.
  7. SINIYA Day to always be held at the school grounds each year.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

  1. Launch of SINIYA Alumni Forum on 6th August 2011 at Hotel Africana in Kampala by the then Prime Minister.
  2. The introduction of the Bursary Scheme that has boosted the number of students from the mere 195 in 2015 to 560 currently.
  3. Rewarding Best Teachers at both UCE and UACE.
  4. Rewarding Best performing students at both levels.
  5. Siniya Alumni Forum managed to organize a Fundraising Dinner 4th July 2015 at Imperial Royale and UGX 144million was realized in cash and pledges.
  6. The Alumni bought a heavy-duty Canon printer which was a dire need for the school.
  7. Bursary Scheme and Motivation of Teachers has made the Forum more concerned with the running of the school than before.
  8. Siniya Day > 2015 & 2016. Each year the Siniya Day puts the school in the limelight and the number of students increase due to this.
  9. A big and standard sign post that befits SINIYA was made and erected to bring the school further into limelight.
  10. Siniya Quarterly Fellowships. Prominent Old Boys like Rt. Justice Patrick Tabaro, Prof. Emmanuel Tumuslime Mutebile and Eng. Hans Mwesigwa have hosted the Fellowships and ideas and funds have been raised to save the school.
  11. Meet, Meat and Greet. Every last Friday of the month Siniya OBs gather at Centenary Park for Meet, Meat and Greet to maintain a bond of togetherness as Basiniya.

CHALLENGES:

  1. The Siniya Alumni Forum’s source of income so far are the Old Boys. Some pledge and fulfill while others don’t. A significant number of those who pledged have not yet honored their pledges.
  2. Priority Areas for funding. The funding of the Bursary Scheme, motivation of best teachers, allowances for all teaching staff, reward of students may all come to naught if the funders (Old Boys) do not show concern.
  3. The idea of having the best teachers, examiners, setters, motivational speakers visiting the school has not yet been done at all.
  4. The Ugandan government i.e. The Ministry of Education and Sports has not done the expected in as far as renovation is concerned.
  5. The discipline of the students is still wanting.

PROSPECTS:

  1. To have at least 800 students by 2019.
  2. To make the school more attractive to both teachers and students i.e Good grades at both levels.
  3. To bring the government on board as far as renovations are concerned.
  4. To make the school self-reliant after 2019.
  5. To encourage discipline in students or face punitive measures that may include expulsion.

  1. This is great idea I really support it 100% and I would also suggest that why can’t we propose to have short khaki for o level.
    Thanks you very much

    1. Thank you for the feedback Mr. Ndiomugyenyi Dennis!

The Khaki shorts have been long gone and reverting the change may not be welcomed by the beneficiaries (students).

More still, the nature of the uniform is not a contributing factor to the academic performance which is our major target at the moment.

We can however discuss the issue at length on SINIYA DAY due February 17th 2018. Please endeavor to attend!

      Thanks!
